Things have not gotten any less hectic around here lately. I have so much I want to blog about, and so little time to actually sit down and blog. I apologize for the lack of posting lately. I just wanted to let all of you know that I hadn’t given up on blogging, and that I would get back into a routine to where I could post more regularly. I cant say enough how much I appreciate all the emails and comments I have received since I started this blog. That is the thing that will keep me going when I have times like these. Thanks for sticking around, I will be back shortly.
I mentioned a few posts back that I got married recently, and I should probably tell you a little about my new wife. I hope she doesn’t mind. Any time two people move in together there is going to be an adjustment period, and the last couple of weeks have been just that. On top of all the normal things that two people living together go through we have other little things to deal with that most people don’t. For example, a few days into the new living arrangement I was trying to stay in bed as long as I could while she was up and getting ready for work. I sleep on the side of the bed next to the wall, when I take my leg off at night I usually try to lean it up against the wall so it is easier to get to in the mornings. Sometimes it falls over and a leg laying in the floor isn’t something most people look for in the morning. I think I found her tripping over my leg, while she was on her way to hug me and tell me bye, and falling on the bed was way funnier than she did. She hasn’t ventured around to my side of the bed much since then. She is really great, and very understanding about things like that, and for that I am very thankful.
I will warn you in advance, it has been a long week already and this post may be a little on the random side.
I have talked about the Friends episode before where Joey finds his hand twin, and I still find that absolutely hilarious. If you haven’t seen it, I will embed the video so you can watch it. It cracks me up every time I watch it. I am not sure why, but it does.
Speaking of hand modeling, let me tell you why I like Megan Fox. By know I am sure you know that she has a club thumb. If you didn’t know before the Super Bowl, I am sure you do know. Every blog and their dog has been talking about how Motorola used a “hand double” for her in the Super Bowl ad for their new phone. I find that a little humorous myself, on a couple of different levels. I think it’s kind of interesting that so many people are so interested in her and her thumb that’s a little different. Every time something gets written about her or she is in the news, like this past week, my site traffic jumps because of searches for her and her thumb. Now I am not complaining a bit about that, anything that gets people here to check out my site is fine by me, I don’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth. I just think it is kind of funny that people are so intrigued by that minor difference, when there are so many other people in the world with differences that don’t get nearly as much attention. I think in a perfect world they would have just used her, thumbs and all, just the way she is and no one would care about her thumb being a little different. We all know that we don’t live in a perfect world though, and so you get Super Bowl ads with thumb doubles and tons of people searching the web to see Megan Fox and her real thumbs. That’s why I like her though, she brings me traffic.
Like much of the country we are actually getting snow right now, not like the blizzard that has hit some parts of the country, but it is more snow than we are used to. I have been in Oklahoma almost ten years, and this is definitely the best winter I can remember since moving up here. I personally love the snow, it makes me happy!
I was reading one of the blogs that I follow, and the person was talking about things being different when you are an amputee, particularly having to walk in things like snow with a prosthetic leg. Gravity and prosthetics are already natural enemies and then you throw in something like snow, or mud, that adds extra weight to a prosthetic things get even more interesting. Even though we only got about 6 inches or so of snow today, I still had to be a little more careful when I was making my way through the yard, because loosing a leg in the snow is never fun, especially in the middle of the day when the neighbors are probably at their doors watching it snow.
The last couple of weeks have been a little hectic and I haven’t really had a chance to keep up the blogging pace that I was starting to get used to. My life has taken some crazy turns over the last year, that led me to a wedding chapel a little over a week ago. I think I have told you a little about her before, she is pretty wonderful and I feel very blessed to have found her. We went on a Friday night and got married, and the next week was pretty much non-stop crazy. We went on our first road trip that weekend to Oklahoma City to visit a family member in the hospital. I had some issues going on at work that kept me busy the first of the week, and then a sick child that kept us busy the rest of the week. This past weekend was pretty much the same hectic pace, between a 5:00 AM fishing trip, another mini road trip to see family, and the Super Bowl this is really the first time in a week or so that I have had a chance to sit down and collect my thoughts.
I am looking forward to getting back into some sort of regular routine, and getting back to blogging on a regular basis. Thank you to those of you who are faithfully following along, even during my brief absences!
There are a few things in life that are very sobering, things that immediately make you aware of how thankful you should be. I have mentioned before that when I was growing up we made numerous trips to the Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas, and we saw so many kids that had varying degrees of disabilities. One of the reasons I never complain about my differences is because I have seen so many people with severe differences I learned very early on to be thankful for how well off I actually am. Over the weekend we spent a few hours in Oklahoma City visiting a family member at OU Childrens Hospital, and that is definitely one of the things in life that makes you instantly aware of how blessed you are. Seeing kids that are so young, walking up and down the halls with no hair dragging IV bags every where they go, that are forced to grow up so fast is humbling to say the least. My heart goes out to anyone having to deal with that sort of thing.
The family member that we were visiting was in ICU for a little while, but he is a trooper and despite lifes best efforts to keep him down he keeps a smile on his face. I can’t even begin to put into words what that little guy has taught me through his example. He was in ICU when we started the two hour trip to the city, and he was up and making us all laugh before we left. I hope one day when he is a little older that I get the chance to share with him how lucky we all are to have him teach us some of lifes most valuable lessons!
This is my way of sharing my day to day life with you. Check out the About Me section to read a little more about myself and my differences.
I started this blog as a way to organize my thoughts and get some ideas out of my head and onto paper so to speak. The goal is to eventually write a book about my life. Writing about things I go through on a daily basis as well as things I experienced growing up seemed like a logical starting point, and what better way to do that than starting a blog? The blog will mainly be a collection of stories from my life, as well as things that I go through on a daily basis. In typical blog style, the newest post will be on top so if you want to read in order you will have to start at the beginning. If you have any comments questions and/or feedback about the site, you can use my contact page to send me a message, I would love to hear from you.
